FC Romania 0-1 Waltham Forest
Forest recorded a long overdue win, turning in their best defensive performance of the season so far in the process.
Their opponents, FC Romania, had won five of six league games so far this season, and enjoyed a strong run in the FA Cup, narrowly losing to Sutton United.
The home side started the match on the front foot, and continued to dominate for large periods of the match.
However, it was Forest who had the first real chance of the game, with Jose Agua firing over when one-on-one, after being fed by an inch-perfect cross from Solomon Ofori.
Forest – fielding a back five for the first time this season – allowed Romania to dominate possession outside the area, but were on their toes to deal with everything Romania threw at them.
Despite this, a combination of the post and a good save from Ferhat Hussein were necessary to keep the scores level at half-time.
Romania then hit the post again, early in the second half, but Forest were beginning to look more dangerous on the break.
Ofori went close, before eventually getting a deserved goal. Steven Ellery supplied a perfectly-weighted through-ball, allowing Ofori to round the ‘keeper and walk the ball into an empty net.
Hassana Traore then hit the post for Forest, as Romania went in search of a winner.
However, Forest held out for the 52 second-half minutes, and collected the three points.
