Grays Athletic 3-1 Waltham Forest

Waltham Forest put up a brave fight, but were eventually put to the sword by promotion-chasing Grays Athletic.

It was the home side who took the lead through Joe Sweeney. Forest stood off the Grays’ forward far too long, allowing him to find the bottom corner of the net with a sumptuous low curling shot with the outside of the boot.

The home side’s lead did not last long however, and Forest were soon level. Joel Palmer’s through ball was met first time by Jack Leachman whose volley gave the home ‘keeper no chance. However, it must be said that Leachman was a good two yards offside when the ball was played through.

Grays regained their lead just before half time when Luke Marshall finished off a fine passing move from just inside the box.

The second half was a very even affair, and both sides has good chances early on.

Jack West, especially, should have done better for Grays when one-on-one, but Ramos stood tall and blocked the one-on-one effort with his leg.

With two minutes of normal time remaining, West made sure of the points from the penalty spot after Jeff Hammond went down under the slightest of touches from Waldron.

Elsewhere this afternoon, the Needham Market Twitter account went from ecstasy to agony within the space of about thirty seconds:
