Grays Athletic v Walthamstow preview

Walthamstow travel to Chadfields on Wednesday evening as they take on Grays Athletic.

Stow’s run of away games continued with a trip to Felixstowe & Walton United on Saturday, where the Seasiders picked up three points in a 2-1 win. It was a very even affair, with both sides hitting the frame of the goal and being denied by good saves from each goalkeeper. Felixstowe went in front through Jose Santa De La Paz just after the half hour mark, before Fatih Mustafa’s equaliser sent both teams level into the break. In the second half, the hosts were in control and won a penalty after Nathan Smith conceded a foul in the box. Joe Whight found the net and made it 2-1 to give Felixstowe the three points.

It’s been a tough start to the season for Grays, resulting in manager Mitch Hahn departing the club on Monday evening.

His last game in charge of the club was on Saturday afternoon as they were defeated 2-1 by Canvey Island. Grays went in front through Samuel Wade’s strike in the 33rd minute, but that was cancelled out by Connor Hubble’s equaliser in the second half. Canvey won it late on thanks to Ross Wall’s 89th minute winner.

Grays currently sit third from bottom on 7 points. They’re out of both FA competitions after being beaten by Canvey Island in the Trophy, and Step 3 side Leiston in the First Qualifying Round of the cup. Grays took on Hornchurch in the Essex Senior Cup where they defeated the National League side 8-0 at home. They will face fellow Isthmian North side Redbridge in the next round.

Previous meetings

It’s been just over two months since the last time the two sides took on each other in August, where Stow picked up their first win of the season in a 2-1 victory at Wadham Lodge. Joden Trickett gave Stow the lead before half time, but the game was drawn level through Stow’s new signing Denim Nnamudi. The three points were wrapped up in the final 10 minutes of the game when Zion Dos Santos Sinclair found the net.
