Hashtag United 3-0 Walthamstow
Walthamstow were eliminated from the Essex Senior Cup after a 3-0 defeat away at Hashtag United on Tuesday night.
With the way Stow played, the scoreline should’ve been reversed. Chances came and went for the blues but they couldn’t take any of them.
However, it was the hosts who went in front through Misha Djemaili just five minutes in. A long punt forward from goalkeeper Joseph Whitney went straight through the Stow midfield and defence and found Djemaili who lobbed the ball over Luke Mewitt which gave the Tags the lead.
It could’ve been two three minutes later when Djemaili was found through on goal but shanked the ball wide.
From then on, Stow were looking to get back into it and had multiple occasions to find the net. First was Tristan Goodridge’s effort which was saved by goalkeeper Whitney, then James Collins hitting the outside of the post.
Elijah Grant could’ve scored a hattrick with the chances he had gotten. Ozzy Adeniji’s cross found the striker who poked the ball wide of the post, and he was then put 1 on 1 where he managed to sit the goalkeeper down on the floor but was still denied.
Stow hit the post not long after when former Hashtag defender Nathan Smith’s shot hit the outside of the woodwork. Up the other end, Luke Mewitt made a good save to deny Bilal Sayoud.
In the second half, Stow’s momentum died down a bit. Hashtag nearly doubled their lead when Praise Ogbebor’s shot hit the inside of the post and bounced out.
Eventually, the hosts found their second of the afternoon. Captain Jaden Crowhurst was found at the back post and he fired the ball home to make it 2-0.
In the 84th minute, Hashtag were awarded a penalty. Goalkeeper Joseph Whitney stepped up and sent Luke Mewitt the wrong way to make it 3-0 and put the game out of sight.
It’s a frustrating loss for Stow, who believe that they should be the ones in the next round. Our attention turns to Saturday afternoon, as Stow travel to Felixstowe & Walton United in the Isthmian League.
