Heybridge Swifts 1-3 Walthamstow
Walthamstow picked up their second win in two games after a 3-1 victory away at Heybridge Swifts.
It was a great performance from the blues, taking their chances well against a poor Heybridge side.
Stow began very brightly, hitting the bar within the opening two minutes via Rasheed Salau, and Callum Ibe’s shot being tipped over the bar from goalkeeper Marcus Garnham.
Heybridge were the ones to strike first and took the lead on the half hour mark. Samuel Adeyeye found himself with lots of space on the edge of the box and his shot found the bottom corner to give the hosts the advantage.
Straight after the setback, Joe Gregory was brought onto the pitch in place of Chris Manangu to what seemed like a strange substitution, but the substitute was involved in Stow’s equaliser right before half time. Gregory’s shot turned into a pass for Rasheed Salau who calmly slotted under the goalkeeper to level the game before the interval.
Stow came out stronger in the second half and came close to taking the lead when Umaru Kabia found Callum Ibe through on goal, but his effort was denied by the goalkeeper.
Eventually, Stow found their second of the afternoon. Ibe created trouble down the right hand side and found Brian Garzon in the box. The midfielder took a touch to create space, giving him the chance to rifle the ball home and give Stow the lead.
The blues weren’t letting their foot off the gas and continued to press and create danger down the right side. Ibe got away from his man and found an unmarked Kabia in the box. His shot was destined for the bottom right corner, but it was brilliantly saved by Marcus Garnham.
Stow ensured the three points would come back to E17 in the 90th minute thanks to Joe Gregory. A long ball over the top from Demi Elegushi found the striker through on goal who neatly placed the ball into the bottom corner, giving Stow a comfortable win.
Walthamstow now sit three points above the relegation zone and face off against 19th placed Takeley next Saturday at Wadham Lodge.
