Maldon start with narrow home reverse
AFTER all the trials tribulations of pre-season with problems off the field and whether manager Stuart Nethercott would stay or not, the last thing he and the bulk of the loyal home fans in the 82 crowd wanted was to lose their first game.
But despite a fairly new look side and some spirited individual performances Town went down by an only goal.
It came in the 26 minutes from a disputed free-kick which saw the visitors’ Dean Pennant head home.
If manager thought Nethercott thought heads would drop going a goal behind he was wrong because Town players responded well.
Although the visitors had the better of the first half certainly Town fought back in the second half and created several chances to equalise.
The nearest they came was on the hour when Danny Johnson rattled the visitors’ bar with a shot following good work from Ross Parmenter down the left wing.
But the visitors held on for all three points.
It was a second defeat for Town on Tuesday when they lost 3-1 at Great Wakering Rovers but at least it was a better all round display then Saturday’s opener. on Saturday.
