Maldon & Tiptree 5-1 Walthamstow
Walthamstow made the journey to Maldon & Tiptree on Saturday with the hosts prevailing in a 5-1 win in the Isthmian League Division One North.
The Jammers were already on the front foot and took the lead just six minutes in. Jack Cawley’s ball into the box found an unmarked Cameron James at the back post and volleyed home past David Hughes to give Maldon the lead.
Stow were trying to draw level straight away but couldn’t take their chances. Elliot Sartorius’ corner found Rasheed Salau who headed wide, and Callum Ibe on the ball back off the Maldon defence and played Joe Gregory through on goal but he was denied by Elliot Justham.
Maldon got their second of the afternoon in the 27th minute. Cameron James became the provider as his cross found Anisius Lewis who fired home.
Stow still looked for their goal and came close when Jordan Peart’s cross found Joe Gregory, but his header bounced wide of the post.
On the stroke of half time, Stow found the goal they were looking for. Alfie Gilbey found Callum Ibe who turned brilliantly, leaving Maldon captain Jack Cawley on the floor. Ibe’s shot found the bottom corner reducing the scoreline on his 200th appearance for Walthamstow.
In the second half, Stow came eagerly close to levelling the scoreline. Ibe played the ball into the path of Gregory who flicked it into the path of Gilbey and found himself one on one with the keeper, but his shot lacked power and was saved by Justham.
Maldon found their third just three minutes later against the run of play. Terrell Egbri’s cross found Lewis who headed in his second of the afternoon.
The hosts regained full control of the game and scored their fourth via Tevan Allen. Louis Dunne’s through ball split the Stow defence open, giving Allen the chance to make it four which he did.
The Jammers made it five when Hughes’ goal kick was headed on by substitute Amine Sassi into the path of Macauley Bonne who slotted the ball home.
Walthamstow now drop into the bottom four and take on high flying Wroxham next Saturday at Wadham Lodge.
