One-Tweet preview to the 2012-13 season
With the start of the 2012-13 season only a few days away, walthamforest-fc.co.uk looks at this season’s Division 1 North line-up. However, this season, there is a twist to the preview. Each preview only has a 140 character maximum – the same maximum allowed for a Tweet. Enjoy, comment and share.
AFC Sudbury: Toyed with play-offs for many seasons, will be looking to improve this year. Have brought in Dave Cowley and non-league legend Lee Boylan.
Aveley: Started rebuilding in March 2011. Justin Gardner has made some very strong signings which should help them be in the top half at least.
Brentwood Town: Disappointed last year, but have had a good pre-season, and have kept most of last season’s squad together. Should challenge for play-offs.
Chatham Town: Lost a large chunk of last season’s squad, but brought in Jean-Michel Sigere. A solid, mid-table position likely.
Cheshunt: Gaffer Tony Faulkner looks to rejuvenate a side who have struggled in recent years. Signed Jose Espenoza and John Medgicks, amongst others.
Grays Athletic: Made a host of impressive signings including Ryan Kirby for their first season at Rush Green. Have however lost Harry Agombar to Macclesfield.
Harlow Town: Made a raft of signings including Reece Dobson and Danny Charles. Jeff Hammond re-signs, but have lost Kirby, Lalite and Marshal to Grays.
Heybridge Swifts: Manager Mark Hawes will be looking to build on last season’s finish. Always a tough squad, Swifts will be hoping for the top 12 at least.
Ilford: Lost manager Colin Walton and brought in Kevin Lucas. Very little known about their close-season signings or pre-season form.
Needham Market: After missing out for the last three years, they’ll be looking to secure the title this season, a job made harder by losing several key men.
Maldon & Tiptree: Decent budget, talented manager. They should go far this year. A strong squad with a host of players following Spillane from Redbridge.
Needham Market: Will look for promotion after several years of missing out. Have lost several key players, but have kept instrumental hit man Sam Newson.
Potters Bar Town: Surprise package last time. Have held onto much of their squad, and will look for a strong top-half finish again.
Redbridge: Lost a Chairman and a Manager in the summer. New joint managers have a wealth of playing experience, but their squad looks very young.
Romford: Have moved from Aveley to Thurrock’s Ship Lane, no doubt meaning a reduction in playing budget. A settled squad, should finish mid-table.
Soham Town Rangers: Disappointing first season in D1N. Have brought in former Histon manager Steve Fallon who has rung the changes. Far more experience squad.
Thamesmead Town: Another side looking to consolidate. Signed stopper Rob Budd and forward Rob Carter with Ilford, but have disappointed in pre-season.
Tilbury: Will look to prove last season’s finish wasn’t a one-off. Have a loyal and committed squad, but lost top scorer Jack West to Grays.
Waltham Abbey: Another settled squad. Have made some strong signings over the summer, including forward Emmanuel Osei and Daniel Elmes from Northampton.
Waltham Forest: Will look to consolidate after a disappointing end to last season. Former Ilford manager Colin Walton has been brought in as Assistant.
Ware: A new Chairman and new Manager in Kristian Munt, a few new signings have been added to last season’s side who finished 21st.
Witham Town: Back in the division after several years away. Made lively signings including Danny Emanuel as they look to consolidate their position.
Wroxham: Likely to continue years of Eastern Counties domination in D1N. A professional set-up who won’t settle for anything less than the top 5.
