Sawbridgeworth Town 2-4 Waltham Forest

Waltham Forest won their first cup tie since November 2012 as they came back from two goals down to beat Sawbridgeworth Town 4-2.

Only seconds into the match, Jose Agua had the ball in the net, but the front-man was adjudged offside, somewhat harshly.

This woke the home side up, and two quick goals inside the first 10 minutes put them in a strong position.

Forest were struggling to put two passes together, but got back into the game through Solomon Ofori’s shot from just outside the box which the home keeper could only deflect onto the post and in.

Luke Ifil scored for the third consecutive game, making room for himself in the boxing and firing in low and hard off the post to bring the scores level.

Skipper Jon Jon Sexton had to be alert at the other end, producing a heroic block after a mix-up between James Ogunleye.

Early in the second half, Forest made sure of the victory. Ofori put his side ahead for the first time, beating the offside trap and firing through the keeper’s legs, before then turning provider, giving Agua the simplest of tap-ins.

Ofori and Agua both had further chances, but were especially wasteful in front of goal.

Forest will now play Clapton in the quarter finals of the Essex Senior League Challenge Cup, with the date of the tie to be confirmed.
