Stow 2-0 AFC Dunstable

Walthamstow bounced back from defeat at Didcot Town with a dominant performance at home to AFC Dunstable.

Stow will be happy with the number of chances they created, and limiting high-flying Dunstable to pot-shots from distance.

The home side started brightly and could have been ahead after only a couple of minutes. Bilal Sayoud’s corner was cleared at the front post, but he curled the rebound back in, which looped over Jamie Head and back out off the far post.

A minute later Callum Ibe’s mazy run ended with an off-target shot, before the game settled down into something for a midfield battle. Dunstable did then enjoy a period of pressure, but it only resulted in a couple of blocked shots and one from Ben Farrell from the edge of the box which was well high and wide.

Just before the half-hour mark, Jack Green’s cross was deflected towards Dunstable captain Ryan Frater who was hurried by Demaray Anyadike into laying the ball straight into the path of Kieran Turner who made no mistake with a driven finish through Head’s legs.

Before the half was up, Duncan Culley fired wide of the goal when played back by Anyadike after more pressure on Frater, and then Bilal Sayoud did similarly when the ball dropped to him after an Ibe corner.

The second half took a similar path to the first; Farrell headed over for the visitors after 50 minutes, and then Ibe went inches away from doubling his side’s advantage. A surging run from Anyadike ended with the Stow winger crossing towards a goal left vacant by Head, but Gedeon Okito got just enough on Ibe’s header to deflect it wide.

Despite there being just one goal in it, Dunstable never really threatened Stow’s goal, and Nicky Iroton’s side got a deserved insurance goal with 87 minutes played with Anyadike’s long ball was latched onto by Jordan Watson, who finished beautifully with the outside of his boot at the near post.

There was still time for Jack Green to have a cross/shot just miss the goal and Anyadike, to make it six home games unbeaten, and five wins from the last six overall.
