Stow manager Ironton commits!
Walthamstow FC is delighted to announce that first team manager Nicky Ironton has committed to signing a two-year contract, to take the club through the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.
Ironton was appointed as manager in September 2022, and turned the season around, culminating in a fourth-placed finish; the club’s highest in the pyramid for 27 years.
Rebuilding the team from scratch at a few days’ notice, the Stow boss immediately set about a team which would compete in the Southern League Division One Central. Once his squad was assembled, Stow went on a remarkable run from Boxing Day, winning 16 games, drawing once and losing just one game to secure a play-off place.
The club was especially happy to see a good working relationship with the reserve and youth teams, culminating in the debut of teenager Louis Mallandain in the final league game of the season.
More than anything though, the management and players connected with the club and supporters, who lived every moment of that incredible run to the play-offs together.
Club Chairman Andy Perkins said “I can enjoy my now summer in the knowledge that Nick has agreed to lead us on a push for promotion next season. I’ve seen, first hand, the work he puts into getting the best players and getting the best from them and I’m full of confidence that we’re going to have a great season.”
Ironton will be joined in the dugout by Assistant Manager Ricci Crace, coaches Dave Bastian and Ed Thompson, David Owen and Lucelta Eugene. We wish Harry Collison all the best, who departs for sunnier climes this summer, and thank him for all his hard work with us last season.
