Stow to return to Isthmian League

Walthamstow FC’s first team will be returning to the Isthmian League Division One North (Sponsored by Pitching In) after a nine-year absence. Stow played in the division from 2007 until 2015, when they were relegated to the Essex Senior League.

But after the FA’s restructuring, Stow have left the Southern League after just one season. This was caused in the main by a shift in the league’s boundaries due to the relegations of Bedford Town, Kings Langley and North Leigh, and the promotions of Leighton Town and Stotfold.

There will be some familiar faces in the Isthmian League though, with Stow having played all but six of the league constitution before. Those new opponents are Brightlingsea Regent, Felixstowe & Walton United, Gorleston, Ipswich Wanderers, New Salamis and Stowmarket Town. Brightlingsea, Gorleston and New Salamis are the only clubs Stow have never played competitively before, having met the other three in the FA Cup.

There’s a few familiar faces from our Essex Senior League days, with Bowers & Pitsea relegated from the Isthmian Premier, and Enfield and Redbridge both promoted from the ESL this season.

The full league constitution is as follows:

  • Basildon United
  • Bowers & Pitsea
  • Brentwood Town
  • Brightlingsea Regent
  • Bury Town
  • East Thurrock United
  • Enfield
  • Felixstowe & Walton United
  • Gorleston
  • Grays Athletic
  • Heybridge Swifts
  • Ipswich Wanderers
  • Lowestoft Town
  • Maldon & Tiptree
  • New Salamis
  • Redbridge
  • Stowmarket Town
  • Walthamstow
  • Witham Town
  • Wroxham
