Takeley v Walthamstow preview

Walthamstow travel to Takeley on Saturday in the Isthmian League. It will be a first trip to Station Road since the two teams met in the 2021-22 Essex Senior League season.

Stow travelled to second place Felixstowe & Walton United on Saturday and picked up a point, though it should’ve been three points returning to E17. Chris Regis scored his debut goal for the club in the 34th minute to give Stow the advantage. The blues looked the better side for the majority of the game, however they couldn’t take their chances in the final third. Felixstowe then levelled the game through captain Billy Holland with less than twenty minutes of time left.

Takeley hosted Felixstowe in midweek, with the visitors prevailing in a 3-2 win. Josh Mayhew gave the Seasiders the lead, before Goerge Pullen’s equaliser six minutes later. Takeley were then reduced to 10 men when John Clarke was shown a straight red card in the 35th minute. Felixstowe took advantage and went 3-1 up thanks to two more goals from Josh Mayhew, sealing his hattrick. Jordan Wescott pulled one back to make it 3-2 from the penalty spot, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback for Takeley, who remain outside the relegation zone by a point.

The two sides met back in December, when Stow picked up three points in a 2-0 win thanks to debut goals from Umaru Kabia and Teddy Stacey, both at the end of each half.
