Waltham Forest 0-1 Faversham Town
Waltham Forest failed to advance after they were beaten 0-1 by Faversham Town in their FA Trophy First Round Qualifying tie.
Captain Tom Hickman got the vital 73rd minute goal in a game that saw both teams creating several chances.
The first half began with a goal-mouth melee in the visitor’s box, but Faversham managed to scramble the ball away.
Soon after Faversham’s Damian Abel eluded his marker and headed for goal, but his shot was also cleared.
The best chance of the period, however, came in the 18th minute when Forest’s Mbive Lokando teed up Richard Shittu, but his shot went wide.
The home side was at it again 12 minutes later when Joel Palmer beat the advancing Daniel Ellis in goal, but the forward delayed his shot, allowing the keeper to recover.
Lokando could have been sent off in the 33rd minute for an off-the-ball incident, but he was spared after the referee consulted with his assistant.
By this time, Faversham had started to get a foothold in the game. They won three corners inside five minutes.
One of those corners resulted from a blistering shot from outside the 18-yard box which the Forest goalkeeper parried.
Faversham carried their closing first half momentum into the start of the second and could have scored in the 51st minute but the shot went over the crossbar.
Lokando was then booked for another off-the-ball incident as Forest’s frustration began to show and it was shortly after that Faversham went ahead.
Goalkeeper Aaron Omand failed to hold onto a shot from outside the box and Hickman drove home the follow-up.
Faversham tried to double their lead three minutes later as Justin Ascheri dribbled inside the box but his shot was saved by Omand.
His teammate, Adrian Stone, also had his shot saved as Forest was caught on the counter going for the equalising goal in the closing stages of the match.
