Waltham Forest 0-1 Needham Market
Needham Market came away from Cricklefield with all three points in a dour end of season match, void of quality.
That isn’t to say there was a lack of effort; all 20 players – Manny Sackey especially for Forest – ran and pressed all match, but for very little reward.
The only goal of the game came very early in the first half. After failing to deal with a long throw into the area, Ollie Fenn was able to get a toe onto the ball and watch it trickle into the net. A goal to match the occasion.
Just before half-time, Arian Retkoceri was unlucky not to bring Forest back into the game, after his acrobatic bicycle kick was tipped onto the post and out for a corner.
The second half began in driving rain, and it took about half an hour for the game to get started again.
Market found Forest stopper Eric Barratt in good form as he pulled off a couple of vital one-on-one saves for the home side.
Forest began to grow frustrated as they had more than one penalty appeal turned down. None looked more nailed on than when Tom Vickers was wrestled to the ground.
However, Market shut up shop, and Forest were unable to create any real occasion in the second half.
