Waltham Forest 0-2 Brentwood Town

Waltham Forest conceded first-half goals to lose 0-2 at home to Brentwood Town in the Ryman Football League (Division One) on Saturday, October 29.

Dean Green and Ryan Edgar scored the goals in the 30th and 43rd minutes, while Forest played most of the second half with 10 men due to the sending off Tashan Nicholas.

Both teams came into the game with only a point separating them in the top half of the table with Forest  forth and Brentwood Town fifth.

And it was the home side that got the first chance to score inside five minutes when Manu Dagher’s shot was saved by Elliot Justham in goal for Brentwood.

The visitors responded immediately but Green missed an easy chance to put his side in the lead.

Shortly after Forest’s goalkeeper Aaron Omand was forced to make a double save resulting in a corner, which Green headed over the crossbar.

The game continued to switch from end to end with the two teams coming close to scoring.

Another Brentwood corner was headed over the crossbar by Green while Forest’s Richard Shittu, with only the goalkeeper to beat, could not convert.

The first goal came soon after when Danny Dafter flicked on a throw-in, allowing Green – who made three appearances for Leyton Pennant in the 2000-01 season – to score with a header.

Seven minutes later Forest squandered a great opportunity when Joshua Bonnett turned beautifully in the box and started a sequence of passes that Dagher failed to finish.

And as the half came to a close, Edgar tapped home the ball to double the score, after Omand had parried from a goal-bound shot.

Brentwood started the second half the better of the two teams, creating opportunities immediately on the resumption.

James Love had a shot cleared off the line and Emmanuel Osei forced Omand into a save after he was fed from midfield by the Brentwood captain, Jason Mason.

One of the few meaningful opportunities for Forest in the half came in the 61st minute when Gazmend Dauti’s shot was well saved by Justham.

The home team was further frustrated when Nicholas was sent off in the 21st minute for a dangerous tackle on Green.

It allowed Brentwood to take control of the game with Mason proving to be a handful in midfield.

He set up Ryan O’Rawe, who headed over the crossbar, before firing a thunderous shot wide of goal.

Substitute Billy Healy could have gotten a consolation goal for Forest in injury time but he muffed his opportunity as the goalkeeper closed in on him.
