Waltham Forest 2-1 Stotfold

Waktham Forest continued their 100% start to the season into September and make it to the second qualifying round of this season’s FA Cup after defeating a resolute Stotfold side 2-1.

There was a return from injury for Lee Flynn, while Lee White made his debut in midfield.

The game opened pretty evenly, with both teams creating some half chances. Brian Moses had Forest’s best chance, heading wide when unmarked in the box

Price Madu – playing in a more attacking role with the return of Flynn – gave Forest the lead after latching onto a through ball from Correy Davidson and poking the ball past the onrushing Stotfold keeper.

Before the half was over Moses had the ball in the back of the net but was adjudged to have fouled a Stotfold defender. The replay showed no such infringement.

The visitors had much of the play in the second half, but Davidson doubled Forest’s lead, converting from the spot after being bundled over in the box.

With five minutes to go Stotfold were given a lifeline, converting a penalty seemingly as soft as Forest’s earlier in the half.

Madu had the chance to seal the win for Forest but his touch let him down at the last moment.

Forest will find out their opponents in the next round in the draw on Monday, before hosting Stansted on Wednesday evening.
