Waltham Forest 3-2 Wroxham
On a balmy August evening the Stags were looking to find their first win of the season against an-in form Wroxham.
The game started at a high tempo, inside the first minute Waltham Forest were awarded a corner from the left hand side although this was cleared easily.
With both teams giving their all Wroxham got themselves a corner, from this pressure the Yachtsmen created a shot outside the box but again this was wayward.
Forest were immediately on the attack with a long range effort from new signing Richard Worrell.
Finally on 15 minutes the deadlock was broken. An Isaac Harfo cross was fumbled by the Wroxham ‘keeper straight into the path of Oyetunji Oyewale who poked the ball home.
However, within a minute, Wroxham had hit back. Paul Cook found Forest knapping and slotted home unmarked at the back post.
There were a few chances but on 21 minutes a cross into the box by Edon Mejzini found Worrell who was unmarked but his shot blazed over the bar.
However just before the half hour Waltham Forest were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box which was sublimely curled into the top corner by Worrell.
More pressure from Forest saw a shot by captain Mustapha see the goalkeeper tip the ball over the resulting in a corner kick .
Shortly after Oyewale was desperately unlucky to see his shot come off the underside of the bar and out for a goal kick.
With the second half underway both teams continued playing at a high tempo and on 55 minutes Wroxham`s combative Paul Cook fired over when he aught to have done better.
On 70 Worrell went close again, his header being tipped over by the ‘keeper’s fingertips.
Forest were made to pay for their wasteful finishing as Russ Durrant was able to round Ashley Harris in the home goal and level the scores at 2-2.
Forest did not give up though, and pressed forward in search of a winner. Edon Mejzini’s shot cannoned off the bar before Worrell blazed an Oyewale cross wide from just six yards.
Finally in the 85th minute the Stags got the winning goal they deserved. A cross from substitute debutant Vedat Ezel was perfectly fired into the path of Oyewale who rifled home from just inside the penalty area.
Forest will host Redbridge on Saturday, looking to claim back-to-back victories.
