Walthamstow 0-0 Witham Town
The points were shared on Tuesday night after neither Walthamstow or Witham Town could break the deadlock.
It was a fair result, with both sides having chances to take the lead but neither side the more dominant throughout the 90 minutes.
Stow looked better in the first half, coming very close to taking the lead on multiple occasions. Tristan Goodridge had two chances from distance which weren’t far off, as did Zack Cooley who fired over the bar. Elijah Grant came closest as the ball dropped for him from a corner and his volley from close range was brilliantly saved by Witham goalkeeper Elliot Justham.
Witham came close up the other end when Luke Mewitt was called into action to deny the visitors. A cross from the right hand side found striker George Smith, his header destined for the top corner but was clawed away by goalkeeper Mewitt.
Before half time, Stow nearly took the lead as James Collins’ free kick looked to be flying into the top corner but was pushed out for a corner by Justham. From the corner, Joden Trickett’s header was blocked by a Witham defender on the line and went out for what should’ve been a corner, but the referee pointed for a goal kick.
The second half was more scrappy and end to end, neither side having a real look at scoring the opener. Elijah Grant was found at the back post and he managed to keep the ball in and poke it towards Joden Trickett but his effort was cleared off the line by goalkeeper Justham.
Towards the end, Witham nearly snatched all three points. Lenny O’Sullivan made an incredible block to deny George Smith one on one, and a clearance from Zack Cooley hit captain Keano Robinson off his back and bounced off the crossbar and onto the goal line, though it didn’t cross.
Walthamstow remain at Wadham Lodge this weekend, as they host Canvey Island on Saturday.
