Walthamstow 0-1 Waltham Abbey

Walthamstow suffered a narrow defeat at Wadham Lodge as a late strike from former Stow front man Jason Hallett handed Waltham Abbey all three points in a tense local derby.

The match began with promise for Stow, who created early opportunities through Ibe and Moses. A floated cross from Cole in the 13th minute narrowly missed Ibe at the back post. Walthamstow’s Moses also brought down a well-delivered ball in the 41st minute, setting up Teniola for a shot that was saved by Abbey’s goalkeeper—and former Stow player—Bradley Robinson. The first half ended goalless, with Abbey dragging a late shot just wide.

The second half saw both sides pushing for the opener. Abbey had an early chance thwarted by Al-Droubi in the 49th minute, while a darting run by Moses in the 66th minute led to a dangerous cross that found no takers. Stow’s best opportunity came in the 68th minute when Robinson’s misplaced pass gave Teniola a shooting chance, but his effort was blocked.

The breakthrough arrived in the 83rd minute when Hallett converted for Waltham Abbey, leaving the home side with little time to respond. Walthamstow rallied late, with Thomas forcing a fine save from Robinson in the dying moments, but they were unable to find the equalizer.

With a strong attendance of 397, the Stow faithful were left frustrated by the result, though the performance showed glimpses of promise. Stow will need to regroup quickly as they look to turn their efforts into points in their next outing.
