Walthamstow 0-4 Cambridge City

Walthamstow fell to defeat on Tuesday after a 4-0 loss at home to Cambridge City.

It was a disappointing game by Stow’s standards, who struggled to get through a robust City side.

The visitors were in full control throughout the ninety, and started effectively as they took the lead just three minutes in. A throw in on the left hand side found winger Charlie Royle who slotted the ball past Luke Mewitt to give City an early lead.

Cambridge doubled their lead thanks to Royle’s second of the evening. The City forward latched onto the end of a long ball and dinked the ball over Mewitt and into the net.

Stow were totally out of it, and gave away a penalty two minutes later. Fletcher Toll stepped up for the visitors but was denied by a good save from Luke Mewitt.

The penalty save gave Stow a bit of momentum, but they weren’t able to convert the chances they had created. Luke Warner-Eley’s deep delivery found Shaun Mavididi at the back post who headed wide. In the second half, Hamid Seisay’s long throw was met by Ali Njie who headed straight at goalkeeper James Philp, and Ozzy Adeniji’s cross was met by no one in a blue shirt in the box.

City were still in control and put the game out of sight by making it 3-0 just before the hour mark. A corner resulted in a scramble in the six yard box, followed by Fletcher Toll poking the ball home.

Stow still looked to get a consolation goal, with Shaun Mavididi and Lewis Allan coming close. Jack Empson’s ball over the top found Mavididi who shanked his volley wide, and Seisay’s long throw was headed at the keeper by Allan. Skipper Jack Empson came close when Mavididi’s corner fell for him on the six yard box but he fired over the bar.

Shortly after, the visitors found their fourth of the evening as substitute Charles Brown-Bampoe found the net with six minutes from time.

Walthamstow turn to FA Trophy action this weekend, hosting Leverstock Green on Saturday.
