Walthamstow 1-0 Bowers & Pitsea
Walthamstow returned to winning ways in midweek after a late 1-0 victory at home against Bowers & Pitsea.
It was another great performance from the blues, who could’ve put the game out of sight with chances in the first half.
Stow started brightly, with two good opportunities in the first 10 minutes. Captain Ozzy Adeniji found Keano Robinson from a cross who headed wide, and Danny Cowlin volleyed the ball just wide of the post two minutes later.
Cowlin came close to giving Stow the lead half an hour in when his shot from distance took a bobble right in front of goal and forced a good save from goalkeeper Samuel Nwabuko.
Bowers did create chances up the other end through Finlay Dorrell who was denied by goalkeeper Luke Mewitt.
The blues had a big chance to take the lead before half time which should’ve found the net. Fatih Mustafa’s corner came back out to the midfielder who laid the ball off for Danny Cowlin and his cross fell for Nathan Smith unmarked in the 6 yard box but he fired the ball over the bar.
The second half continued with Stow the better side out of the two. Keano Robinson came close early on in the first half from a header, and both Tristan Goodridge and James Collins’ efforts from distance rolled just wide of the post.
Although Stow were the better, the game took a turn as substitute Jared Small was sent off for an incident off the ball and Stow were reduced to 10 men.
The set back didn’t stop Stow from threatening the Bowers goal. Joden Trickett’s volley from distance was pushed over the bar by goalkeeper Nwabuko.
Finally, Stow found the back of the net. The ball fell for Joden Trickett on the edge of the box who shrugged off defender Tala Lo Seye and fired it into the bottom corner to give Stow a well deserved win.
Walthamstow move up to 12th in the Isthmian League, and host Brightlingsea Regent this Saturday at Wadham Lodge.
