Walthamstow 1-0 Fakenham Town

Walthamstow returned to winning ways on Saturday afternoon after a 1-0 victory against Fakenham Town in the pouring rain at Wadham Lodge.

The game was far from a classic, but Stow battled through the tough conditions to pick up the three points.

Stow were the better side in the first half, creating lots of chances in the first quarter of an hour. Nathaniel Opoku and Keano Robinson both fired wide of the post, and Joden Trickett headed the ball just over the bar from a free kick swung in by Tristan Goodridge.

Eventually, Stow found the lead in the 17th minute. A long free kick landed on the back of James Collins and looped over the onrushing goalkeeper Luke Pearson and rolled slowly into an empty net.

From then on in the first half, not much happened. Stow were still in control but neither side had a real opportunity to threaten the opposition goal.

In the second half, Stow were just about hanging on to the lead as Fakenham looked for an equaliser. The visitors had a cross cleared away by captain Nathan Smith, and had three shots in the box which were all blocked or saved by Stow’s robust defence. Fakenham came close in the 64th minute when striker Jake Watts fired wide from close range.

The blues continued to hang on, and had chances to extend their lead late on. Tristan Goodridge’s shot on the edge of the box was deflected wide, and Joden Trickett’s effort rolled wide.

The final whistle eventually blew and Stow were victorious. Walthamstow continue their run of home games, with Witham Town this Tuesday.
