Walthamstow 9-0 Lowestoft Town
Walthamstow beat Lowestoft Town 9-0 (yes, nine) on Saturday afternoon in the Isthmian League at Wadham Lodge.
It was a fully deserved victory for the Stow, who completely dominated and controlled the game keeping their first clean sheet of the season.
The scoreline could’ve been double digits at the end, when Nathan Smith poked the ball home after a goalmouth scramble just three minutes in, but the referee disallowed it and kept the score at 0-0.
Lowestoft struggled to get into Stow’s half, but they came close eight minutes in when Benji Blyth’s effort from distance forced a good save from goalkeeper Luke Mewitt.
Ten minutes later, Stow found their first of the afternoon. Shaun Mavididi’s cross was parried away by Lowestoft goalkeeper Korey Beevor into the path of Fatih Mustafa who fired the ball home to get his first goal in Stow colours.
Mavididi nearly became goalscorer two minutes later when Jared Small’s cross found the winger at the back post for what seemed like an easy tap in, but the ball went straight through his legs and rolled out for a throw in.
The visitors came close to levelling the game when striker Kyle Baker was found unmarked in the penalty area, but he lifted the ball over the crossbar and out.
Returning Nathan Smith didn’t have to wait long for his goal to count as he made it 2-0 on the half hour mark. Keano Robinson’s long throw was met by Smith who flicked the ball into the bottom corner to double Stow’s lead.
Stow were then awarded a penalty in the 41st minute when Keano Robinson was fouled in the box. James Collins stepped up to score his first of the afternoon and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Right before half time, Stow had found a fourth and the Rabble behind the goal had ran out of confetti cannons. Joden Trickett did brilliantly to win the ball back off of defender Rio Abodunde and fire the ball home through the goalkeepers legs and into the net.
It didn’t take long for Stow to continue scoring after the second half, as Trickett found his second. Ozzy Adeniji’s cross found the striker who fell on the floor, got back up and still managed to poke the ball home.
The blues found their sixth just before the hour mark with Joden Trickett picking up the first of two matchballs. Fatih Mustafa’s free kick found Keano Robinson at the back post whose header crashed against the post came off Trickett and rolled into the net, despite Nathan Smith smashing the ball home right on the goal line.
The goals kept flooding through as substitute Elijah Grant got his name on the scoresheet. He was found out on the left hand side, cut inside and curled his shot into the bottom corner to make it 7-0.
James Collins found two in the space of five minutes to pick up his matchball and make it 9-0. Mustafa’s corner found JC at the back post to make it eight, and substitute Danny Cowlin’s pass played the midfielder through on goal where he smashed the ball into the top corner.
Stow were desperate for double digits, and came close when Tristan Goodridge’s effort was saved by goalkeeper Beevor, but fell for substitute Sajed Korso who fired over the bar.
As the referee blew for full time, the celebrations had started at the Lodge. For Stow, it’s London Senior Cup action on Tuesday as they host Erith & Belvedere on Tuesday night.
