Walthamstow v Cambridge City preview

Walthamstow host Cambridge City at Wadham Lodge on Tuesday night in the Isthmian League.

Stow were away in Norfolk on Saturday as they travelled to Wroxham, where the hosts picked up three points in a 2-1 win. Wroxham were in front at half time after Ethan Flack’s opener in the 23rd minute. Elijah Grant scored his first goal for the Stow right after half time from another corner, but that was later cancelled out by Sammy Johnson’s goal just five minutes after. Wroxham defender Josh Hazell was sent off in the 93rd minute after a second yellow card for dissent.

Our visitors

Cambridge City were in action on Saturday in the FA Cup. In the Extra Preliminary Round, City travelled to Lowestoft Town where they comfortably won 4-1, meaning they would face another Isthmian North side AFC Sudbury at home where they won 2-1. Freddie Hockey gave City the lead before George Chenery’s equaliser for Sudbury before half time. Charlie Royle’s goal in the 53rd minute would be the winner which sends them through to the First Qualifying Round.

Cambridge have only played one league game so far, which was a 2-1 defeat at home to Canvey Island. The visitors went in front after an own goal just three minutes in, added by Ernest Okoh’s goal giving Canvey their second in the 80th minute. City’s Charlie Royle pulled one back in the 94th minute, but it was too little too late for the hosts, who sit 18th in the league table.

Previous meetings

Both sides picked up three points in the two meetings between each other last season. Stow travelled to Cambridge in late August, where they were beaten 2-0 under the management of now director of football Vinny Murphy. Goals from captain Jayden Randell and Joseph Boachie in the space of five minutes were enough to kill the game and wrap up the win. Stow hosted City in January where the visitors took an early lead through Aaron Williams-Bushell just three minutes in. Brian Garzon was denied from the spot with a quarter of an hour gone, but Charlie Heatley would find the net as he equalised three minutes later. Stow found their second goal in the second half via Wilson Bernal and his first Stow goal.
