Walthamstow v Felixstowe & Walton United preview
Walthamstow welcome league leaders Felixstowe and Walton United to Wadham Lodge this weekend, in a game which will be crucial for both sides.
The visitors are currently top of the pile, but have an identical record to second-placed Bury Town. They are only separated by goal difference.
And they appear to have stumbled recently, winning their last two after a three-game skid without a win. Bury Town’s blip has opened the door to Waltham Abbey and Brentwood Town to crash the title party late on.
It seems like the final play-off place will be fought out between Brightlingsea Regent, Walthamstow, Witham Town and Tilbury. Brightlingsea, one of the league’s form teams, do have a six point lead over Walthamstow and Tilbury but this week lost assistant manager Pip Boyland to freshly-minted Maldon & Tiptree.
Felixstowe’s top scorer Charlie Warren was in the news this week; the striker scoring while on trial at Bolton Wanderers. It is likely that he will be available for his parent club this weekend, but a transfer bit from a professional club could change that.
When the two sides met earlier in the season, Felixstowe picked up the points thanks to a 2-1 victory. The game was a real slog, with neither team giving much away. In the end, Felixstowe were holding on and Walthamstow probably deserved a point.
In the same fixture last season, Felixstowe levelled in injury time through Josh Mayhew to earn them a point after J’Ardell Stirling had given Walthamstow a first half lead.
