Wick relegated
Hackney Wick are the first team to be confirmed as finishing in a relegation place in this season’s Essex Senior League.
Last night’s defeat to Stansted means that even with four games still to play, they can only achieve a maximum of 35 points. This would only take them as high as 19th, and that’s if every result went their way.
However, with a serious lack of clarity over how many teams will be relegated from the ESL this season, it remains to be seen where Wick will be competing next season. Indeed, only one team relegated in the last five seasons.
This was Wick’s first season in the Senior League, after “merging” with London Bari to take the latter’s place and removing all trace of the original club.
But it was a chaotic season, with Chris Davis, Tolga Dervish, Tony Ievoli, Chris Davis (again) and at least one other all in charge of the first team at some point.
They’ll be playing at the Community Track at the Olympic Park, but with some suggesting this ground won’t pass a grading for the new Eastern Senior League (Essex step 6), it could be another difficult summer for Bobby Kasanga.
