Wingate & Finchley 5-0 Waltham Forest
Waltham Forest’s dismal away campaign was completed today as they lost score at the hands of Wingate and Finchley. Forest’s only ‘away’ win this season came against Ilford, while only 17 goals were scored on our travels all season.
Leon Smith put play-off hunting Wingate 1-0 up on eight minutes, and scored his second on 25, nodding in Burrell’s cross.
Smith went on to complete his hat-trick on 47. Ahmet Rifat then made it 4-0 with a long distance effort on 57.
The goal fest was not finished, as Marvin Samuel scored on 65. Sadly, he scored into the wrong goal, and made it 5-0 to Wingate.
Before today’s game, Forest knew that if they could somehow win both their remaining fixtures, and overturn a 10 goal deficit, then they may have a chance of staying up. However, this defeat, coupled with Ilford’s win over Romford means that Forest are now mathematically relegated, and will most probably be playing in the Essex Senior League next season.
