Wingate & Finchley Preview – 23/3/11

On Wednesday evening we take on our friends Wingate & Finchely in the Ryman League, a match that was originally scheduled for just over a month ago. Wingate Currently sit fifth in the league table, and have been amongst the play-off places for most of the season. However, one look at the form table shows the trouble Wingate have found themselves in recently. In the last six games, they have only picked up three points, all coming in the form of draws against Enfield Town, Romford and Maldon & Tiptree. Despite this poor form, Wingate have made it through to the finals of both the London Senior Cup, and the Ryman League Cup.

Strangely, this is the first time we will have played Wingate this season. The reverse is due to take place on the 25th of April.

It has to be said, that our record against Wingate & Finchley is not the greatest. In seven attempts, we have only beaten them once at home, that coming way back in August 2002 when Chris Stevens scored the only goal of the game. The last time we beat Wingate was in March 2007, when Jeff Hammond and Shawn Evans helped us to a 2-1 win at the Abrahams Stadium.

Wingate will be without former Forest keeper Gavin King, who amassed almost 100 games for the club, as he suffered a broken finger earlier in the season.

This match will see us catch up a game on Ilford, and a win is much-needed to close the seven point gap.
