Advent Calendar 2015: Day 4 – Leyton Pennant 6-1 Dunstable Town
Today is the final game we look at where seven goals were scored. We’ve previously looked at an FA Cup win over Hemel Hempsted, a 6-1 win against Needham Market, and a 4-3 victory over Ilford.
Today we look at the only FA Vase match in our countdown, a 6-1 win over Dunstable Town.
Dunstable were then in the Premier League of the Spartan League, having won promotion by coming second in Division 1 the season before.
Forest – then Leyton Pennant – on the other hand, were in their second season in the Isthmian League Division 2, after being relegated at the end of the 1999-2000 season.
As such, Pennant entered the Vase at the second qualifying round stage, where they beat Sawbridgeworth Town 2-0.
Dunstable, meanwhile, had beaten Ware 2-1 in the first qualifying round, and Harwich and Parkeston 2-0 in the second qualifying round.
Pennant ran out 6-1 winners, but sadly for this look back, there is little evidence of the victory in form of match report.
Pennant then beat Ashford Town (Middlesex) in the next round before eventually losing to Mildenhall Town 2-1 AET. The competition was eventually won by Whitley Bay, who beat Tiptree United 1-0 in the final.
Went on to bigger things
Simon Ticker went on to be a mainstay in the Enfield Town side for many years. Matt Waldron came and went and then came back and went again to Pennant/Forest, and is one of the club’s top 20 appearance-makers.
Disappeared from view
Sammy Underhill and Paul Tresadern failed to make much of an impact in non-league after leaving the Lilywhites.
