Brightlingsea Regent 3-0 Walthamstow

Walthamstow travelled to Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday with the hosts coming out with three points and three goals in a 3-0 win in the Isthmian League North Division.

In a game of not many chances, two costly mistakes from Stow helped Regent on their way to victory.

Stow looked the better for the first ten minutes and were putting pressure on the Regent defence. New signing Elliott Sartorius arrived from step three side Aveley and was the key to the Stow attacks. His cross into the box after getting away from his man just floated over the top of the head of Samir Ali at the back post.

The chances kept coming slowly for Stow but they were unable to take them. Callum Ibe’s cross was headed out by Regent left back Finlay Adams into the path of Rasheed Salau but his volley rolled wide.

Two minutes later, the hosts took the lead. George Doyle’s defence splitting pass found Dan Rowe who squared the ball across goal for Shane Temple to tap home at the back post.

Brightlingsea went on to double their lead just three minutes later via a defensive mistake. The pressure from Regent forced Jack Johnson into a back pass to goalkeeper David Hughes, but his clearance was blocked by Temple and the ball fell for Dan Rowe who fired home into an empty net.

The game was then sealed in the 53rd minute as the hosts got their third in the same manner of their second. Temple once again was putting pressure on Johnson who lost possession of the ball and was then picked up by winger Jack Clowsley who went one on one with Hughes and slotted past the keeper.

Stow had a chance to get on the scoresheet when substitute Tyrone Baker was played through on goal but he dragged the shot wide.

Walthamstow now drop to 15th, just three points away from the relegation zone and travel to Maldon & Tiptree on Tuesday in the Essex Senior Cup.
