Gorleston v Walthamstow preview

Walthamstow make one of the longest journeys this season on Wednesday making the trip to Gorleston in the Isthmian League Division One North.

Stow have been on the road for the last two games, away at Stanway Rovers and most recently Tilbury on Saturday picking up a point in each game. Saturday saw Tilbury go 2-0 up thanks to goals from Dan Trendall and Darren Phillips with seven minutes from time, but substitutes Brian Garzon and Tyrone Baker helped rescue a point in the space of four minutes.

Gorleston have had a positive start to the season and currently sit in 4th on 28 points. Their last league game saw them travel to Downham Town and come away with the three points in a 2-0 win. Joe Marsden broke the deadlock 17 minutes in, and Ryan Curtis made sure of the victory getting his name on the scoresheet with 15 minutes from time.

There have been three meetings between Stow and Gorleston last season, with two of them being victory for the Greens. The opening day of the last league season began with Stow hosting Gorleston at Wadham Lodge, with the visitors coming out victorious. Louie Johnson gave Stow an early lead just five minutes in, but two penalties from Joseph Duffy sealed the win. The two sides then drew each other in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with Stow making the trip up to Great Yarmouth. However, the Greens were the ones to progress with a 1-0 win thanks to Ryan Curtis. It was then turn for Gorleston to host Stow in the Isthmian League in December, with Stow returning to E17 with three points in a 2-1 win. Goals from Rasheed Salau and Callum Ibe gave Stow a two-goal lead at half time. The hosts got a goal back through Joe Jefford but it wasn’t enough to get back into the game.
