Maldon & Tiptree v Walthamstow preview

Walthamstow make the journey out to Maldon & Tiptree on Tuesday in the Essex Senior Cup Third Round.

Stow have been in league action for the last three games, most recently losing 3-0 away at Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday. Stow looked poor in defence, and two costly mistakes helped Regent onto the win. Stow now sit only three points outside the relegation zone.

Maldon currently sit top of the Isthmian League North Division Table, however they suffered their first loss of their league campaign on Saturday, losing 2-1 away to Felixstowe & Walton United. The hosts took the lead midway through the first half via Josh Mayhew, but were then pulled back to level terms thanks to Anthony Wordsworth. Zak Brown’s goal in the 47th minute was enough for Felixstowe to hold on and close the gap to the Jammers at the top.

The two meetings between Stow and Maldon last season ended in a win for Stow and a draw. Maldon arrived in E17 in early February and came out as 3-1 losers. The Jammers took the lead through Kai Brown in the first half, before Louie Johnson levelled the score. Bilal Sayoud gave Stow a 2-1 lead, followed by Johnson’s second of the game. In the reverse fixture, Tyrone Baker gave Stow the lead just after half time, but was later cancelled out by a late equalise from Kai Brown.

Last season, Stow drew at the time National League South Side Aveley in the third round, but it would be the step two side who progressed with a 4-0 win through a brace from Razzaq Coleman De-Graft and goals each from Ibrahim Akanbi and Nathan Carlyle.
