Had a successful playing career having played for the likes of Nurnberg in the German Bundesliga in the early nineties as well playing for Red Star Belgrade between 1988 and 1991, a period that saw Red Star win the European Cup in the 1990/91 season.

After finishing his playing carreer in England with spells at Dagenham and Redbridge and finally at FC Grace Athletic, Cancar turned to coaching and now has a UEFA B coaching badge.
