Redbridge 2-3 Walthamstow

Walthamstow picked up three points on Saturday after a 3-2 win away at local rivals Redbridge.

It was a performance well worthy of three points, with an incredible fighting spirit to come back from two goals down.

Stow started brightly but it was the hosts who took the lead. Malachi Napa found himself with the ball on the edge of the box and rifled it past David Hughes and into the net just 12 minutes in.

Stow were straight away looking to get back into the game and came very close when Charlie Heatley’s shot from distance was deflected out for a corner. From that resulting corner, Brian Garzon found Jordan Peart unmarked in the box who headed just wide of the post.

The chances kept coming for Stow but were denied by Redbridge goalkeeper Samuel Nwabuko. Rasheed Salau picked up the ball and drove into the box where his shot was rolling into the bottom corner but was well saved by the keeper.

The second half started like the first, with Redbridge finding the net early on. Pedro Carvalho found himself in acres of space on the left-hand side of the box. He took his time and found the far corner of the net to double the Motormen’s lead.

Straight up the other end, Stow got the goal they were looking for and gave the travelling fans something to cheer about. Rasheed Salau played a lovely ball through to Charlie Heatley who found Brian Garzon unmarked in the box, and he fired home giving Stow a lifeline for a comeback.

That lifeline was boosted as Stow drew level just nine minutes later. Garzon’s corner was met by Keano Robinson who headed past Nwabuko to draw Stow level and get his first goal for the club.

Stow weren’t done yet and completed the comeback in the space of 13 minutes with a lovely strike from Charlie Heatley. Brian Garzon picked up the ball in the middle of the park and played the ball into Heatley who turned and found the bottom corner from distance giving Stow the lead.

All Stow had to do now was hold on, which they did magnificently bringing all three points back to E17. Walthamstow extend their gap from the relegation zone to 8 points, and travel to struggling Lowestoft Town on Tuesday evening.
