Walthamstow 0-0 Grays Athletic

Walthamstow shared the points with Grays Athletic on Tuesday night after a goalless draw at Wadham Lodge in the Isthmian League Division One North.

It was a tedious game of few chances, and a real lack of quality from both sides.

The first real opportunity arose for Stow on the 20th minute when captain Joe Elliott found an unmarked Ekow Coker at the back post who headed wide from six yards.

Grays were having chances of their own as a corner swung in evaded everyone in the box and was fired over the bar at the far post.

Stow had possibly the biggest chance of the game to take the lead just before half time. Pedro Carvalho latched onto the end of a long ball forward and was one on one with goalkeeper George Marsh but he could only fire wide.

Stow couldn’t break down a stubborn Grays defence in the second half, especially captain Lewis Clark. Carvalho’s run down the left wing which ended in his shot being deflected over the bar by the Grays skipper was probably Stow’s best chance of the half, if it could be called that.

When Stow did look dangerous, it was on the counter, but time after time the wrong decision was made, and the chance evaporated.

Walthamstow return to FA Trophy action this weekend facing off against Leighton Town in the Second Qualifying Round at Wadham Lodge.
