Walthamstow 0-1 Lowestoft Town

Walthamstow were beaten on Saturday after a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Lowestoft Town at Wadham Lodge.

It was a poor performance from Stow, with no real chances to get back into the game and the wind once again playing its part.

The first half was very end to end with the visitors taking the lead in the 18th minute. Luca Upton found Kyle Haylock’s overlapping run who cut back inside and found Henry Pollock unmarked in the box firing the ball past Sion Nurse and into the back of the net.

From then on, Lowestoft managed to control the game and keep Stow out, though they didn’t have many chances. Stow did come close to equalising on the half hour mark when Brian Garzon’s corner found Chama Torsiello at the back post who headed the ball back towards Chris Regis but was denied from close range by goalkeeper Ben Self.

The second half began with Lowestoft coming close on numerous occasions, with Kyle Haylock volleying wide from a corner and Connor Deeks heading the ball against the crossbar.

Stow slowly started to get back into the game but weren’t clinical enough in front of goal. Charlie Heatley found himself through on goal one on one with the keeper, but he dragged his shot inches wide of the far post.

The home side were still looking for an equaliser in the last ten minutes but couldn’t take their opportunities. Rasheed Salau fired wide from a Brian Garzon cross, Jordan Peart put in a great ball into the box which was cleared away by Ben Self and substitute Gassem Benelghazi’s cross found Chris Regis in the box who was denied.

Lowestoft held onto a precious three points in their hope of staying up. Walthamstow sit eight points outside the relegation zone and make the trip to Newmarket Town next weekend.
