Walthamstow 0-4 Redbridge
Walthamstow’s unbeaten run came to an abrupt end on Saturday after a 4-0 loss to local rivals Redbridge in the Isthmian League Division One North.
The game had few chances for either side but four avoidable goals including two penalties for the visitors secured the three points.
It was fair to say that Redbridge started the better side, as they took the lead on the 13 minute mark. A great save from goalkeeper David Hughes rebounded into the path of the Redbridge attacker who squared the ball across goal to Solomon Ogunwomju who fired into an empty net to get his and the visitors first goal of the afternoon.
The Motormen then doubled their lead on the half hour mark. A deep ball into the back post from Jack Chawner found Ogunwomoju who headed past Hughes to get his second of the game.
Stow were slowly producing some chances and nearly got a goal back if it wasn’t for a great save by Redbridge goalkeeper Samuel Nwabuko. Former Redbridge man Joe Elliott’s long throw found his defensive partner Ekow Coker in the box and his header goalwards was pushed out by Nwabuko.
The second 45 started with manager Vinny Murphy making three substitutions, looking to get a foot back in the game. However, Redbridge were awarded a penalty just five minutes later. Solomon Ogunwomoju stepped up and completed his hattrick sending David Hughes the wrong way.
Stow were managing to get forward, but their chances kept fading with the wrong decisions being made time after time.
Redbridge eventually got their fourth of the afternoon in the 94th minute. Malachi Napa took the penalty and rifled it into the top left corner.
Walthamstow take a break from league action, featuring in the London Senior Cup for the first time since the 2007-8 season on Tuesday against Bromley. Next Saturday, Stow travel to Waltham Abbey in the FA Trophy
