Walthamstow 1-2 Felixstowe & Walton United

Walthamstow’s run without a win continued as after a 2-1 loss at home to top of the league Felixstowe & Walton United.

Stow put up a great fight against the league leaders but were unable to get anything from the game.

Both teams started brightly, with Stow eagerly close to taking the lead in the first ten minutes. A cross from the right-hand side found Demi Elegushi who neatly headed down for Callum Ibe, but his volley was brilliantly saved by Felixstowe keeper Harry Wright.

Brian Garzon came into the game having scored two in two games and was creating trouble for the Felixstowe defence, cutting inside and putting Ollie Caley-Brown on the floor, however the shot was straight at Wright and easily saved.

Felixstowe started to put the pressure on and nearly went in front when Ethan Garcia found Sam Ford in the box, but his header flew just wide of the post.

The visitors took the lead just four minutes later with another cross into the box and headed goal. Billy Holland’s ball out wide found Josh Hitter and his cross found Tom Warren at the back post who headed past David Hughes to give the Seasiders the advantage.

Stow eventually got the goal they were looking for just before the break. Garzon’s corner was floated into the back post which led to a goalmouth scramble with captain Joe Elliott poking the ball over the line to level up the game.

Stow were looking to continue that positive momentum in the second half but were unable to take their opportunities. Joe Gregory laid the ball off for Caleb Dennis and his shot at goal was blocked.

With just under twenty minutes to go, Felixstowe regained the lead against the run of play. Josh Hitter threaded the ball through to Sam Ford controlled brilliantly with his left arm, and then slotted calmly past David Hughes to give the visitors the lead. Stow were incensed, but it seemed that the match officials were the only people in the Stow half not to see the clear and blatant hand ball.

Walthamstow now drop to 18th, just one point outside the relegation zone and are back on the road in midweek taking on Bowers & Pitsea.
