Walthamstow v Downham Town preview
Walthamstow host Downham Town on Saturday in the Isthmian League Division One North looking to bounce back from 3 losses on the spin.
Last weekend saw Stow exit the FA Trophy after a 6-0 loss at Waltham Abbey.
Downham’s last game came in September with a 2-0 win away at Heybridge Swifts. Charlie Royle gave the visitors the first goal of the afternoon, with Lagshan Sivakumar scoring the second just eight minutes after. Downham did go down to 10 men after Dylan Edge was shown a second yellow card, but they managed to hold on securing the three points.
The last and only meeting between Stow and Downham was only just over a month ago, when Stow progressed to the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy after a dramatic 3-2 win with the last kick of the game. Downham were the ones who started the better going into half time with a two-goal lead. Dylan Edge got the first, punishing on a mistake from the Stow defence midway through the half. Before half time, Charlie Royle’s cross found Jacob White in the Stow box who caught the defence sleeping. Stow eventually got their first goal back when Olu Oluwatimilehin pounced on the ball being parried by Downham keeper Duncan McAnally and headed home. Returning hero Callum Ibe got the second goal, skipping past two defenders before placing the ball into the bottom corner. Stow got their winner deep into added time, when Downham substitute Ben Smith headed into his own net from a Pedro Carvalho cross.
