Walthamstow v Leighton Town preview
Walthamstow take on Southern League Division One Central side Leighton Town in the FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round at Wadham Lodge this Saturday.
Stow extended their unbeaten run to four games on Tuesday after a 0-0 draw at home to Grays Athletic in an encounter of few chances. Stow did have chances to get in front on the counter attack, but hesitant decision-making led to the chances evaporating. Stow’s next league game is the following Saturday hosting Redbridge in a local derby.
Leighton Town have had a good start to their season, winning seven out of their nine games, however only three of them being league matches. They currently sit just outside the playoffs, with wins against Ware, Thame United and MK Irish giving them nine points out of a possible nine.
Stow reached the Second Qualifying Round coming from behind to beat Downham Town 3-2. Goals in the second half from Olu Oluwatimilehin, Callum Ibe and an own goal sent Wadham Lodge into mayhem. Leighton came up against Isthmian League Division One North side Brightlingsea Regent and beat them 3-0 away from home. Goals in the second half from an own goal, Sydney Ibie and Rio DaSilva sent them through to the next round.
This will be the first encounter between the two clubs since the 2004/2005 season, taking them on in the Southern League Eastern Division. Out of six games played between the two, there have been two draws, Leighton have only won one and Stow have won three.
