Walthamstow v Newmarket Town preview

Walthamstow are back in action this Saturday taking on Newmarket Town at Wadham Lodge in the Isthmian League Division One North.

Stow had a week’s break as all the FA Cup Preliminary Round ties were played, including this weekend’s visitors Newmarket Town. The Jockeys were matched up against Felixstowe & Walton United and took them to a replay on Tuesday night after drawing 1-1 at home, and it would be the Jockeys who progressed to the First Qualifying Round, via a brace from Oscar Dean. They will now face either Harlow Town or Woodford Town at home.

Stow’s last game ended in a point apiece against Bowers & Pitsea last Tuesday. Stow took an early lead 4 minutes in with a long ball over the top from Joe Elliott which made its way to Rasheed Salau who shrugged off two defenders and lofted the ball over an onrushing Joe Whitney. Bowers found the equaliser at the beginning of the second half with a ball forward finding Michael Faulkner taking it past his man and firing a shot on the edge of the box past David Hughes at his front post. The visitors took the lead just 10 minutes after with an overhead kick from Luca Albon. Stow fought back immediately with an equaliser from new signing Samir Ali. A ball played over the top from Olu Oluwatimilehin found the substitute who cut inside his man and slotted the ball past Joe Whitney levelling up the game. That gave Stow and Bowers their first point of the season.

Walthamstow and Newmarket have only ever played each other twice, with both encounters ending in a win for Stow. A trip to Suffolk at the end of September ended 4-1 with a goal from Callum Ibe and a hattrick from Brian Moses. Stow welcomed the Jockeys to E17 in late November and won 5-2 with braces from Tayo Oyebola, Bilal Sayoud and a singular goal from Ali Njie.
