VCD Athletic v Stow preview
Walthamstow make the trip south of the river this weekend facing off against Isthmian South East side VCD Athletic in the Isthmian League Cup.
Stow are still without a win this season after a 2-0 loss on Bank Holiday Monday away at Cambridge City. Two goals in the first half from Jayden Randell and Joseph Boachie secured the three points for the hosts and lifted them from the bottom of the table. Stow had the majority of chances in the second half to get back into the game but were unable to convert. Stow’s next league game is at home against Brantham Athletic on the 13th September.
VCD Athletic currently sit midtable in the Isthmian South East Division after their promotion from Step five last season. They are currently on a total of six points with one win and three draws; that win coming on Monday against Erith Town. VCD went into half time level at 1-1 but secured the win in the 74th minute through Oliver Freeman.
This will be the first competitive meeting between the clubs since 2014, though the two sides did meet in a pre-season friendly just over three years ago. There have been four encounters with Stow winning two; both in the 2009/2010 season and VCD winning the other two in the 2013/2014 season (pictured), on their way to the Isthmian Division One North title.
