Report

The Stags won at home for the first time this season due to some excellent defensive work from Simon Tickner, some astounding saves from ‘keeper Gavin King and a truly superb goal from Ugur Kardal.

Wivenhoe started brightly causing the right side of the home defence some problems and Stafford Brown was guilty of missing a sitter when he put an early header wide. Stags took control of the first half but lost dangerman Dewayne Clarke on 22 minutes when he was brought down by Taylor. Within three minutes Forest took the lead when cult hero Ken Charlery flicked a cross on to Kardal whose acrobatic bicycle kick found the back of the net.

In the second half Wivenhoe pressed for the equaliser but were confounded by King making two point blank saves. Forest could have gone further ahead as Wivenhoe pressed but were not able to profit from the space given them by Town’s defence.
