Bricknell, John

John made three substitute appearances during the 2006-7 season, at a time when his father, Dave, was manager of the club’s Suburban League-winning reserve side.

John’s brother Billy has an impressive scoring record at the higher levels of non-league football, but John has never quite reached the same heights, despite some promise.

In 2010, he was part of the all-conquering Stansted side who romped to the Essex Senior League title, with a forward line lead by Dwight Gayle.

He picked up a second ESL winners’ medal at Barking, but was more of a squad player this time around than first choice.

At the start of the 2016-17 season, Barking manager Glen Golby said: “At the minute, we’re trying to get John to a level of fitness where he can get through 90 minutes. That should hopefully be by the end of the month and if we can get him to that level, he can get 20 goals this season.”

In the end, he had one of his most prolific seasons for a while, scoring 12 in all competitions, but still a bit short of his full potential.

He returned to Enfield for a spell in the 2017-18 season, but hasn’t been seen playing senior football since.
