Stags 1 – 1 Maidstone United
{tab=Match Report} Forest could have stolen this tie at the last knockings but all min all, the draw was a fair result. United took the initiative early on when James Pinnock had an excellent chance to score from 6 yards but the home defence blocked the shot well.
Forest settled down to the task and the game became very even until the 24th minute when United’s Matthew Wright headed home from close range after a cross from James Saunders.
United only held the lead for 10 minutes then Danny Gabriel combined with Luke Stanley to release Andre Humphrey Modest in the centre of the penalty area. He made no mistake with a rasping shot into the back of the net.
The second half saw both teams have periods of dominance but it was the home side could have won at the end when Danny Gabriel and Dean Pennant had excellent chances to seal the tie.
{tab=Match Preview} Tomorrow we will face Maidstone United for the first time in the club’s history. We got through to this round of the FA Trophy after putting away East Thurrock United 2-0 in the last round of the competition. Only once in Forest’s history have the club progressed past through to the first round proper of the FA Trophy. That was in 2006 when we lost 1-0 to Fleet Town. Currently unbeaten in four, Forest will hope to put away a Maidstone United side who find themselves 10th in the Ryman Premier League table, despite being hard of scoring of late.
Maidstone lost their last game 1-0, away to Horsham last Tuesday. Meanwhile, Forest recorded a 1-0 victory over close rivals Leyton, Danny Gabriel on the score sheet. Having scored three in his last two games, it is hoped that Gabriel will continue his rich vein of form.
Maidstone’s top scorer, meanwhile is James Pinnock who has five league goals in addition to one goal in the FA Cup. In total, Maidstone have scored 14 league goals and have conceded 12 while Forest have scored the same amount and conceded two more.
Forest will go into the game with no fear after proving themselves against higher opposition in the FA Cup in the form of Boreham Wood. Whatever happens come saturday, a close encounter is expected from all.
