Tributes pour in for much-loved sportsman
A date has been set for the funeral of much-loved amateur footballer Joe Harley.
Mr Harley, 44, died while turning out for his current team Walthamstow Avenue and Pennant Veterans.
Tributes have poured in from his many former clubs including Waltham Abbey football club where he was captain for several years.
His fiancee, Caroline Berry, said: “Something good is going to come out of this. He died of a heart attack due to high blood pressure which he didn’t know he had. All these older sportsmen, they don’t get themselves checked out and I’m going to fight to raise awareness of the health risks. If he’d had a check-up, it might have saved him.” She added: “I feel honoured and blessed to have known him. His family and friends have lost someone very special.”
