Report

Leyton Pennant made a welcome return to winning ways with a deserved 2-1 victory over Leatherhead on Tuesday night.

Leatherhead started the stronger and enjoyed all the early possession but they failed to seriously threaten the Lilywhites’ goal.

With the pace of Adrian Allen up front, Pennant looked dangerous on the break and they took the lead after 20 minutes.

Billy Cove fed Allen who raced past his marker and beat the keeper from the edge of the area but Pennant’s joy was to be shortlived.

Within three minutes the scores were level as Paul Salmon’s misplaced backpass allowed Humphrey to steal in and net from a narrow angle to make it 1-1.

The second half saw Pennant assert their authority but for all their pressure they couldn’t find a goal and Leatherhead looked set to escape with a point.

But five minutes from the end the Lilywhites grabbed the winner through Ben Wood who drove his shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
