Leyton 2 – 1 Waltham Forest

It was a case of new season, same old story for Forest who, despite dominating for much of the game, were unable to convert any chances and found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline.

Forest opened brightly, but it was the home side who took the lead through Patterson-Bohner, who outpaced the Forest defence and finished coolly past the onrushing Willis.

Forest should have gone equalised after some good work from Joe Seabrook found Dean James, but his header dropped wide. Soon after this, Marquin Smith was brought down inside the area, and Luke Stanley stepped up to take the penalty. Unfortunately for Forest, Stanley’s spot-kick found the inside of both posts before bouncing clear.

The visitors started the second half well, and caused Leyton a lot of problems with some good pressing. Their reward came on 52 when a well worked short corner between Stanley and Cole found Moshood Olafunmishe who made no mistake with the finish.

This goal sparked Forest into life and Dean James and Andrew Thomas both had good chances. It was the home side however, who scored the final goal of the match. Some poor marking from a free-kick left Skoniezki free to score an acrobatic scissor kick.

This goal took any wind out of Forest’s sail, and the game fell away to a poor defeat.
